Work with Me at The Onion (Web Producer Job in NYC - Deadline Today)

Sorry, I didn't blog this sooner. Been a bit swamped, but in case you haven't heard...

The Onion, America's Finest News Source, is seeking a Web Producer who will be responsible for the final state of the editorial content on theonion.com website.

Their duties include entering articles and other content into the Content Management System, cropping and uploading photos, preparing audio & video files for web publication on our sites and distribution to our partners, building and sending emails to subscribers, and keeping the site maintained with up-to-date information. Technical familiarity with web standards such as HTML, CSS, and the Unix command line are required.

They should be experienced in Adobe Photoshop and have some background in layout, preferably with Adobe InDesign, as well as experience with video production such as Flash and Sorenson Squeeze. Fluency in emerging web trends such as microblogging, social networking and other buzzwords is highly valuable. Ideally, the Web Producer will learn to automate much of their job and grow to assume greater responsibility, working closely with the Web Editor to test new strategies, interpret metrics and more. Familiarity with the Onion brand is always a plus.

The Web Producer will work closely with the Web Editor of The Onion and report to the Director of Web Technology. It is an entry-level position with potential for great growth within the Onion web staff.

  • This is a full-time position based in New York City. Start date is as soon as possible.

  • Applicants should submit a resume and cover letter to webproducerjob@theonion.com

  • Applications are due by 5pm ET on Friday December 7th.
