Don’t blog about it. BE about it. A reminder to participate in politics

cross-posted to JJP

Hey fam. I decided to drop a video message because I wanted you to see and hear what I'm talking about. One of the best parts of blogging here was the ability, not just to write about what's going on politically but to participate in those goings on and share those stories so others might act as well. I miss that. I miss knocking on doors and making phone calls and live streaming rallies. It's been frustrating to be a relative consumer of politics over the past few months.

Last night, I broke with my newly acquired and unsatisfying tradition. I joined an Organizing For America phonebank encouraging people to call their Senators in support of the upcoming health insurance reform votes. Man, I love voter contact! I can't do that full time, but I do feel refreshed, and I have to remind myself to step away from the screen on a regular basis and reconnect with that participatory urge that got me so fired up and ready to go in the first place.

I hope this post can act as a humble reminder for others to do the same.
