CNN Wildly Misses the Mark with Read a Book

Cross-posted to Jack & Jill Politics

Not that I am surprised, but it is infuriating to watch the folks at CNN butcher the "Read a Book" video. They compare it to Schoolhouse Rock! Schoolhouse Rock was not satire! If you can stomach it, please watch the clip below. The entire presentation of the story was wrong including the use of the black parents who are angry at the video. Where is this anger over "A Bay Bay" etc?

It is just too ironic that BET is being taken to task by the likes of CNN over THIS video.

And the host, Tony Harris, needs to check himself. Brotha's been watching Bill O'Reilly too much. In the real world, the right people are probably getting the message of "Read a Book," but I can't help but be frustrated at the massive distraction that shows like this CNN farce are to the real work that needs to be done which is to reclaim the images and messages of our people from those who have sold us self-destruction in the name of profits.

How'd that guy get to be a professor of anything? He doesn't even understand satire!

yeah that was pretty damn aggravating to watch. i don't know how the host is gonna openly admit he watches BET videos but then act like this cartoon is the most outrageous thing to hit the airwaves.

i really don't see why it's so hard for people to see the connection between this cartoon and the real life (non-cartoon) videos just like it that are aired on the same show...

Also, man. The sheer number of times the news guy cut them off or killed their sentences trying to skew the overall impression was insane.

He was just trying to manufacture outrage and twist the message off of the video.

I have to say: fair and balanced this coverage is not. Maybe it's just my week, but this seems too aggressively focused on presenting an untrue representation to even have been legitimate confusion.

Go D'Mite, though. I think he's confusing his message with the hygiene sections, but it's about goddamn time someone walked up to krunk culture and pointed a finger and a remark. I teach kids from K-12, and it's heartbreaking to hear them already focused on bling and violence, turned into non-thinking consumers, and to hear them taking violence as the way to deal with problems.
