In answer to the Day 1 Question “When Did You First Realize You Were Black (or X)?”
my realization of being black came when i moved to the us to attend college. Living a life of privilege in Haiti never allowed me to question whether or ot i was entitled to the best that life has to offer. When some of my black classmates in college started accusing me of talking white (because i always used proper english grammar) and also because i did not want to be a member of the black student association on campus, i realized that i was in a class by myself, that i should stick to fellow haitians who experienced life as i did back in Haiti.
