In my first standardized test in 3rd grade, the first few questions were name, sex and race. I got to the race question and had no idea what to answer, I looked at my arm, and all I knew was that I wasn’t black.  So, I looked at the tests of everyone around me and they all answered “white”…I followed suit.

My teacher called my mom to teach me that I was not white. I got home…and she taught me.
